Today, as we celebrate a day of peace through Mandela Day on 18 July every year, we would like to take the opportunity to present his country of origin, South Africa. We are going to do that from a perspective that includes its geography.
Let’s start by the South African flag that is a symbol of peace. The flag was designed and adopted in 1994 to mark the end of the Apartheid. The symbolism that the Y shape in this flag represents is that of “the convergence of diverse elements within the South African society, taking the road ahead in unity”.
South Africa is located in the southern part of Africa as one can see on a World Globe. The country has a total land area of 1,220,813 km2 which id 400% larger than the UK. The population of this country is estimated at 59, 622, 350 inhabitants, 80.7% Black, 8.8% Coloured, 7.9% White, and 2.6% Asian. Its climate is temperate in general.
The country is the second-largest economy of Africa after Nigeria.
It is probably the only country that encircles another one, Lesotho.
